Hispanics welcome learning about the US holidays to enrich their experience in the new nation that opened its doors to them. During Thanksgiving, families all over the country gather in thanks, many newly arrived individuals find themselves alone and without immediate family. Their friends, community and the Hispanic Center, become their new extended family. For Hispanics, food is as important as is language. Latinos’ Thanksgiving dinners are one more sign of how Hispanics adopt American culture and blend it with their own. You may think they’re eating the same turkey as everyone, but you just might taste the chorizo as soon as you take a bite.
Thanks to Pepsi Beverages Company-OLE, this year the Hispanic Center was able to generously provide 125 turkeys and groceries to local area families who are most in need. These are our "Canastas de Esperanza".
